Step 2. Configure your WiFi

The MobileConnect system requires a WiFi network for transmission. Usage of an existing network infrastructure as well as the setup of a dedicated infrastructure is possible.

The quality of the WiFi is directly influencing the service’s quality and performance.

Quality of Service is recommended.

  • Audio data requires priority over other traffic in the network, both on WiFi and in the wired network.

  • Access Points and wireless devices should be WME/WMM certified.

  • WME/WMM should be enabled and provide QoS features.

Configure traffic prioritization on your Access Points:

  • streaming uses DSCP EF value

  • control uses DSCP CS3 value

Warning

We strongly recommend using quality-of-service measures to achieve the best possible audio quality and low latency. For more check the MobileConnect WiFi Checklist.

Usage of 5 GHz band is recommended.

  • The 2.4 GHz band, unlike the 5 GHz band, is not divided in atomic non-overlapping channels. Channel overlaps lead to inter-channel interference and to overall service quality degradation.

  • There are many other users of the 2.4 GHz band (Bluetooth, wireless microphones/speakers, ZigBee etc.).

It is recommended to make 12 Mbps the lowest mandatory data rate.

  • It is not recommended to disable data rates between 6 Mbps and 12 Mbps. Some clients will ignore the AP denying access and try to repeatedly join the network. The repeated unsuccessful join attempts degrade the service quality for all joined clients.

The recommended limit of number of clients per AP is 50.
